“Our scope included supplying and installing carpet and underlay to all bedrooms in the internal units, as well as commercial carpet tiles in all corridors and the manager’s office,” explained Project Manager, Alina Hickey. “The products were carefully selected to balance durability and aesthetic appeal—creating warm, inviting interiors that still meet the high-traffic demands of multi-residential living.”

The project progressed at an accelerated pace, requiring agile responses from the Kawana Flooring team. “The project ran very smoothly and was completed faster than expected,” said Alina. “We adapted quickly and kept everything on track.”

Strong communication and teamwork were key to this success. “We’re proud of supporting the on-site team and maintaining close collaboration with all Habitat staff,” Alina explained. “Their flexibility was incredibly helpful—especially allowing us to cut carpet on site in the basement, which streamlined our deliveries and installation.”

Silver Trading Timber Flooring, a Sydney-based leader in flooring solutions, has brought technical mastery and attention to detail to the Wee Hur Student Accommodation project in Redfern. With 11 years of industry experience and a team of 30, the company deployed 20 skilled professionals to deliver a comprehensive flooring package across the multi-storey development.

The scope of Silver Trading’s work included tiling, carpet tiles, vinyl, rubber flooring, and floor preparation—covering every single surface within the student housing complex. It was the company’s first collaboration with Richard Crookes Construction, and Director Patrick Yu says it was a standout opportunity to showcase the team’s expertise.

“This project really tested our team in all the right ways,” Patrick said. “There were some intricate geometric shapes in the lobby design that required precision cutting and careful execution. Luckily, our experienced installers made light work of it.”

Additional challenges included a complex mixed carpet tile design in the corridors and the logistical hurdles of operating in a tight inner-city environment. “Being in the city made material delivery planning critical,” Patrick explained. “We had to coordinate everything closely to ensure the project stayed on track.”
