Mapei Advances Decarbonisation in the Cement & Concrete Sectors with New Product Launch

Mapecube is an industry-first liquid admixture designed to increase strength and reduce CO2 in concrete

Mapei, a global leader in chemical solutions for the building industry, has officially launched Mapecube, as one of the industry first line of liquid products designed to strengthen and reduce the CO₂ footprint of concrete.

Over four billion metric tons of cement are produced worldwide each year. Cement manufacturing and production contributes 1.56 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂) in 20231, approximately 8% of the world’s total carbon dioxide emissions2 and approximately 1% of Australia’s overall emissions profile 3.

A global product line, Mapecube, meets the industry demand for stronger, durable, low-carbon concrete that at the same time maintains construction schedules.

Proudly designed and developed at Mapei’s state-of-the-art plant in Wacol, Brisbane, the Mapecube 70 is a local formulation, while the Mapecube 60 and 60W are part of the highly credible global product range.

Mapei General Manager Australia, Marco DeSantis, comments that Mapecube is a game changer for the concrete industry and a step toward meeting sustainability goals within the industry both locally and globally.

“We are excited and proud to launch the Mapecube into the Australian market as it is one of the industry-first, innovative, and commercially viable solution that actively supports the industry in upholding high standards while reducing its climate impact.

The essence of this product line is to do more with less. With Mapecube, concrete producers can use increased volumes of alternative binders while maintaining or enhancing the concrete’s durability. This offers savings in CO₂ production and even in cost per cubic meter.”

“This innovation is an important contribution to Australia’s cement and concrete industry’s quest for climate neutrality as we transition to net zero by 2050,” De Santis said.

Mapei’s Mapecube products are liquid admixtures that promote concrete strength development at all ages while allowing the use of increased supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). They allow for the strength of concrete to be maintained along with a significant reduction in cement contents, which then lowers the amount of CO₂ emissions produced.

The Mapei Mapecube product line impressively contributes to meeting several key recommendations by its industry association Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia’s decarbonisation report, proudly contributing to its roadmap and pathway to achieve sustainability targets.

The Mapecube is a 100% market-ready liquid mix-in solution for industrial applications. It requires no additional investment in machinery and enhances concrete performance while delivering superior economic and environmental benefits.
