Bradfield City Centre First Building construction complete

In another significant milestone for Bradfield City Centre, construction of the First Building – housing Stage 1 of the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) – is now complete.

Located in Western Sydney, Australia’s manufacturing heartland, the AMRF will offer world-class support to help businesses grow faster, reduce risks, and compete globally, while strengthening the NSW economy.

The AMRF is central to the economic development strategy underpinning Bradfield City Centre. By strengthening the manufacturing sector, the AMRF will play an integral role in creating more high-value jobs, leveraging the $20 billion worth of Government infrastructure in the Aerotropolis.

With sustainability at its core, the First Building sets the benchmark for the new city. It features extensive use of natural materials and a cooling green roof to reduce solar thermal heating loads.

Designed with Country, the building draws its design cues from the surrounding natural waterways and the Cumberland Plains. Internal rammed earth walls provide a stunning visual feature, alongside extensive glass walls that allow visitors to witness the creation of new prototypes and technologies in the AMRF Manufacturing Hall.

A rooftop viewing platform provides a unique vantage point to watch the construction of the new city and the nearby Bradfield Metro station.
The Bradfield Development Authority has now begun commissioning the building and installing advanced manufacturing equipment, with a scheduled opening in early 2025.

First Building fast facts

• Co-designed by Hassell Studio and Dr Danièle Hromek from Djinjama, the First Building takes its design cues from the surrounding natural waterways and the Cumberland Plains.
• Connecting and designing with Country is at the heart of First Building. The concept for the First Building aspires towards facilitating ‘manufacturing with Country’ by celebrating the unique character of the Cumberland Plain and the fluidity of Wianamatta, speaking back to long standing Dharug and local community practices, principles, and narratives.
• The First Building’s green roof features biodiverse native, low-maintenance plantings to reduce solar thermal heating loads and improve the building’s microclimate.
• First Building will be a 400m walk from Bradfield Metro Station, when it opens in line with the Western Sydney International Airport.
