Ampd Energy and Blue Diamond Machinery Team up to Provide the Construction Industry a Path Towards Net Zero

Electrification of construction and mining sites is now a reality with battery energy storage

Ampd Energy, a global energy industry innovator and manufacturer of the Enertainer™ and Ampd Silo™ energy storage systems (ESS), has teamed up with Blue Diamond Machinery, the leading net zero rental business in Australia to the construction industry, to make the electrification of construction sites a reality.

Due to rapid global urbanisation, industries such as mining, construction, agriculture and the heavy industries — which often rely on diesel — are major contributors to carbon emissions. There is an urgent need to pursue decarbonisation. Although many sectors are making strides towards electrification and renewable energy, the mining and construction industries have not yet kept pace with these changes. This lag has implications for the costs of new housing in Australia, worker safety, public health and efforts to combat climate change.

In most large-scale mining and construction projects, there is no grid supply; sometimes when there is, it is limited. When the grid is not available, the project owner resorts to diesel generators. Diesel powers more than 75% of all construction equipment in Australia and in Western Australia, the industry sector, that includes mining, gas extraction, manufacturing and chemicals, accounts for about 50% greenhouse gas emissions. Over half of the greenhouse gas emissions reported for mining activities in the state are from fuels used in trucks and other heavy mining equipment used onsite. Unlike diesel used in road transport, there are no regulations in Australia for diesel generators.

Recognising the opportunities for these industries to increase productivity and reduce emissions, Blue Diamond Machinery established its Clean Energy & Engineering Hub in Henderson, Perth, Western Australia, earlier this year. Blue Diamond Machinery’s Henderson facility is dedicated to servicing and distributing net zero equipment as well as off-grid and traditional power solutions. The team can customise complete turnkey power solutions to meet Australian safety and compliance standards and more importantly, provide products that can withstand the tough Australian conditions.

“Blue Diamond’s mission is to become the market leader in clean power solutions through innovation in products, energy storage and hydrogen generation,” said Justin Pitts, CEO at Blue Diamond Machinery. “We hope to transform the way Australia thinks about power in mining and construction projects on this continent, and our partnership with Ampd Energy is part of that plan.”

Ampd Energy chief executive officer Brandon Ng echoed the sentiment. “Australia has very remote and rugged conditions that test the performance of any machinery. We’re proud that Ampd Enertainer and Ampd Silo can provide the type of reliable power needed for these heavy industries and to be working with Blue Diamond Machinery to make them available in Australia, all  in pursuit of decreasing carbon emissions.”
