BESIX Watpac to Transform Famous Sports and Entertainment Hub

BESIX Watpac wins high profile Moore Park Precinct Village project to transform Sydney’s sport and entertainment hub.

Sydney’s original home of sport and entertainment is poised for a transformational chapter in its history through a partnership between BESIX Watpac and Venues NSW that will deliver new community and recreational facilities, increased public space and a new underground car park in the Moore Park Precinct Village project.

BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker said the project win is testament to BESIX Watpac’s ability to add value coupled with the breadth of experience in the NSW team.

“BESIX Watpac is thrilled to be entrusted with this high-profile project that will enhance both the SCG and Allianz Stadium’s appeal as a recreational destination,” Mr Baker said.

“The project will benefit from our team’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions that meet the needs of our clients as well as enrich the surrounding community – these include proposing alternative design solutions to optimise functionality, mitigate risks and save time while retaining quality.”

The project will see an existing parking area near Allianz Stadium and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) transformed into a vibrant “village precinct” featuring accessible open green spaces, a children’s play area, food and beverage offerings and the creation of a car park with up to 1500 spaces available.

With works being undertaken in a busy precinct, BESIX Watpac General Manager NSW Giovanni Polimeni said rigorous plans would be in place to ensure safety and business continuity.

“Many of our projects are delivered in fully operational environments within precincts that experience both high vehicle and foot traffic,” Mr Polimeni said.

“Recognising the operational complexities of working within a major live event facility BESIX Watpac have worked closely with Venues NSW to understand event schedules and tailor our methodology to accommodate these requirements.

“By implementing stringent safety protocols and stakeholder engagement strategies, we aim to minimise disruptions and ensure seamless coordination.”

The SCG precinct is a foundational site in world sport and since its establishment in the 1850s has hosted the world’s biggest names, acts and sports. The Moore Park Precinct Village and Carpark project will be funded by Venues NSW.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
