Waterproofing Assurance ensured compliant, durable solutions with full-scope oversight across basements, balconies, and rooftops.

Waterproofing Assurance

At 388 Lane Cove, Waterproofing Assurance was engaged to deliver a full-scope waterproofing consultancy with a core focus on compliance, durability, and performance.

Led by Director Darren Williams, the team provided early-stage input and technical oversight across all critical areas—including basements, balconies, and rooftops.

“Our role focused on compliance with Australian Standards, and specifying cost-effective, long-life materials,” Darren explained. Working collaboratively with architects and engineers,
they ensured waterproofing strategies were integrated early, eliminating common failure points and reducing long-term risk.

What made the project especially unique were the below-grade conditions. “Being mid-slope on a hill, the site presented seepage risks during the rainy season,” Darren said. “We proposed a Newton system for the basement which allowed for compliance testing and early remediation—saving time and reducing rework.”

Complex transitions, particularly around penetrations and foundation-slab junctions, posed compliance challenges. These were met with carefully developed detailing, routine site inspections, and real-time coordination with MEP and structural teams.

“We worked with the applicators on membrane preparation protocols and adapted our protection board solution to suit a last-minute change in backfill material,” Darren added.

The project exemplified best-practice in climate resilience. Systems were selected for their long-term durability under hydrostatic pressure, thermal stress, and UV exposure. Field testing—including flood tests and electronic leak detection—verified system compliance, reducing lifecycle costs and supporting warranty approvals.

By project’s end, Waterproofing Assurance had delivered a fully compliant, low-maintenance, high-performance waterproofing envelope. “We provided documentation, training and long-term maintenance guidance to the client to ensure asset performance for years to come,” said Darren.

A&E Tiling delivered durable, high-performance tiling and waterproofing for elite sports and high-traffic spaces.

A&E Tiling Services

A&E Tiling Services brought their signature precision, experience, and attention to detail to the Parramatta Eels NRL Centre of Excellence and Community Facility. With over 15 years in the industry, and led by Director, Yahya Hamdan, the team was responsible for delivering all tiling and waterproofing works across the landmark project.

“We completed floor preparation, tiling, and waterproofing across both buildings,” Yahya said. “That included high-use areas like the pool surrounds, change rooms, balconies, kitchen, and café, spaces that needed to look great but also handle serious wear and tear.”

As a high-performance training facility for elite athletes, every surface needed to combine durability, safety, and visual appeal. Yahya and his experienced crew of 20 delivered on that brief, working closely with other trades to ensure consistency across finishes. Their scope also included paving works, helping shape both the indoor and outdoor experience for players and visitors alike.

One of the most demanding elements was the pool surround tiling, which required careful planning and flawless waterproofing to ensure long-term performance. “There’s no room for shortcuts in an environment like this,” Yahya added. “Everything needs to be durable, slip-resistant, and visually aligned with the centre’s world-class design.”

The Parramatta Eels COE project is a proud addition to A&E Tiling Services’ growing portfolio, which includes high-end residential work in Mosman and Rozelle, warehouses in Kemps Creek, and commercial projects like Westfield Mt Druitt.

With a reputation built on quality, reliability, and collaboration, A&E Tiling continues to be a trusted name in large-scale and bespoke tiling solutions. Their work at the Eels Centre of Excellence reflects their ability to deliver excellence on some of Sydney’s most high-profile builds.

Izzat Consulting delivered innovative façade engineering solutions, balancing complex design, structural performance, and sustainability

Izzat Consulting Engineers

Izzat Consulting Engineers provided façade engineering expertise, including waterproofing design on the Forma & Contra project. The architectural vision required a high-volume of custom-designed components to achieve both the design and meet the structural requirements.

“As façade engineers, we had to design and document multiple architectural features, including louvres, screens, balustrades, window hoods, and corbels, ensuring the head contractor, Buildform, and their subcontractors had the detailed specifications needed to construct these elements,” explained Brett Brown, Director and Technical Manager at Izzat,.

“One of the major innovations was the laser-cut aluminium handrail, which not only met the architectural intent but also complied with structural performance standards,” Brett noted. Izzat also designed a brick screen with strategically placed openings to balance ventilation, light, and privacy while maintaining structural integrity against wind loads and other building regulations.

“Efficient design is key to minimising environmental impact,” Brett said. “We meticulously considered material selection, structural longevity, and compliance with industry standards to reduce the risk of premature maintenance and remedial work. Too often, we see buildings that aren’t designed with durability in mind, leading to costly repairs. By integrating long-term efficiency into our designs, we ensure a more sustainable outcome.”

Collaboration was integral to the project’s success. “Buildform managed the design process seamlessly, organising regular design workshops where all consultants could work through competing priorities,” Brett said. This approach allowed greater flexibility and problem-solving, ensuring that engineering, architecture, and budget constraints were all effectively balanced.

Reflecting on the project, Brown highlighted the importance of adaptive design thinking. “Engineering is about problem-solving, and this project reinforced the need for creativity in developing alternative solutions that meet structural, aesthetic, and financial requirements simultaneously.”
