Concrete Engineering Solutions delivered precision post-tensioned systems for the Parramatta Eels’ high-performance Centre of Excellence.

Concrete Engineering Solutions

As the Parramatta Eels’ long-awaited Centre of Excellence took shape, the structural integrity and performance of the facility were critical. That’s where Concrete Engineering Solutions (CES) came in—delivering precision-engineered, post-tensioned concrete systems to support the elite training complex’s bold architectural and performance ambitions.

“CES was engaged to supply and install the post-tensioned tendons across the Centre,” said Burhan Vandeliwala, Operations Director. “Our work was essential in achieving the wide spans and reduced slab depths required for spaces like the gymnasium and multipurpose zones.”

The team’s scope included the placement, stressing, and grouting of tendons, which enhanced structural performance while improving material efficiency. This approach reduced the concrete volume and steel reinforcement required—lowering the environmental footprint.

Complexities were part of the job, with high-load areas needing tailored solutions. “We worked closely with the structural team to refine the tendon layout and sequence,” Burhan noted. “Our in-house design and engineering capabilities allowed us to respond quickly to evolving site demands.”

In areas where exposed concrete aesthetics mattered, CES introduced innovative solutions—such as recessing grout holes and minimising visual impact while maintaining full structural function. “Our focus was precision and quality,” added Burhan. “From updated shop drawings to calibrated stressing and grouting under tight quality control, every step was managed to exceed expectations.”

“The Centre of Excellence showcases our ability to deliver complex, high-performance concrete systems where durability, sustainability, and structural excellence intersect,” said Burhan.

Our expertise extends beyond post-tensioned slabs. We also offer bespoke solutions for adaptive re-use projects and structural modifications—each requiring the same precision and engineering excellence that we demonstrated on this project.

With this project, Concrete Engineering Solutions reaffirmed its role as a leader in post-tensioned concrete and structural engineering—supporting not just buildings, but the future of elite Australian sport.

JAG Pumping and JAG Commercial Concreting delivered full-scope concrete works at Nue Gungahlin, overcoming complex site and scale challenges.

JAG Pumping

As the head concrete contractor on the landmark Nue Gungahlin development, JAG Pumping, along with their sister company JAG Commercial Concreting, shaped the project from the ground up. Led by Director Glenn Kennedy, the JAG team placed all concrete slabs throughout the structure and executed the hard landscaping across the site.

“This was one of the bigger projects we’ve done,” says Glenn.
“We placed everything: every slab, every external pour; and brought the whole building out of the ground.”

Despite the challenges presented by the project’s height and scale, JAG’s crew demonstrated why they’re leaders in large-scale residential concrete placement.

“We weren’t allowed to park around the back due to site conditions and weather. Mud made truck access impossible,” explains Glenn. “So we did everything from the street using a 58m pump, a 2m whip line, and a spider boom. That combination allowed us to avoid tower booms early on, which saved the builder on cost, materials, and time.”

A standout moment in the project was the massive transfer slab which involved 700m³ of concrete pumped and poured before 11am. “They needed it fast because of the thickness of the deck. We used two large mobile pumps to get it done efficiently,” Glenn says.

For the top floor, the team poured 1700m² of post-tension mix, on both towers, simultaneously. “There were no control joints in the roof slab, so we had to pour it all in one go. One tower used a mobile pump, the other a city pump, which was run on two separate static lines. We started in the centre and poured out with two separate crews,” explained Glenn.

At Nue Gungahlin, JAG Pumping once again proved why they’re trusted on Canberra’s most complex builds, delivering a virtually defect-free result through smart problem-solving, unwavering reliability, and meticulous attention to detail on even the largest pours.
